Green in-situ preparation of chitosan/gallic acid metal-organic framework nanocomposite hydrogel beads as an antibacterial agent

In the history of modern medicine, there has been a serious risk of antibacterial drugs as losing their effectiveness against bacteria . In this regard, nanocomposite hydrogel beads based on natural polymers such as chitosan (CS) have been recently proposed as antibacterial platform . In this work, antibacterial gallic acid-based metal-organic framework (GA-MOF) were developed to increase the biological efficiency of CS hydrogel beads (Scheme). Various analysis techniques were utilized for the validation of successful construction of the nanocomposites. In-vitro GA release in the simulated physiological environmental (PBS, pH 7.4) were considered, revealing a controlled and sustained release profile during 72 h. Antibacterial studies showed inhibition zone of 18 ± 0.5 mm for the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, respectively. Considering obtained results, the prepared nanocomposite hydrogel beads have good potential to be employed as antibacterial bio-platform.
