Highly selective reduction of nitro compounds catalyzed by Cu-MOF-derived CoFe2O4 under mild conditions

Today, studies on the catalytic reduction of nitroarenes and dyes are of great importance, because nitroarenes and dyes are considered as important pollutants in wastewater, which can pose risks to humans [1]. Therefore, providing an efficient method to achieve these compounds and protect the environment is very important. Following of our research [2], herein, the magnetic MOF-based catalyst containing Cu species as an active site offers unique and cost-effective route for the catalytic reduction of nitroarenes. In details, magnetic CoFe2O4 as a core is prepared, functionalized with aspartic acid and then magnetic-MOF catalyst is formed by using TAZ-IMI and Cu(OAc)2. Notably, TAZ-IMI was synthesized from cyanuric chloride and imidazole as a precursor for the synthesis of MOF. The catalytic capability of CoFe2O4@Cu-TAZ-IMI catalyst was examined in the reduction of nitroarenes under aqueous and mild conditions. The result shows that this heterogeneous catalyst represents the excellent catalytic activity, high stability towards reduction reaction and facile recyclability up to seven consecutive cycles without significant loss of activity (Scheme).
