Fabrication, comparison and evaluation of membrane modified with xanthate and sulphated C3N4 to improving performance

Ultrafiltration members fabricated from xanthate mix were processed by phase inversion method using 12% PS in DMF. A 1000 ppm zinc nitrate solution was used in this study to adsorb heavy metal ions, and the membranes were characterized by pure water flux, contact angle, and rejection of metal ions to determine the effect of the additive on membrane properties. A dead-end setup was used to test the membrane and to detect the presence of zinc ions quantitatively. Ultrafiltration membranes exhibit a greatly increased permeability and ion adsorption properties, according to the results. A second stage consisted of the addition of solfunated C3N4 to increase hydrophilicity. Both components cooperated and result showed the water flux and rejection of heavy methal has grown 16% compared to initial state.
