Sodium alginate-galactomannan with carbon quantum dots decorated on Fe3O4@CuO nanoparticles bio-nanocomposite hydrogel beads for targeted drug release

This research is designed to prepare smart pH-sensitive sodium alginate-galactomannan bio-nanocomposite hydrogel beads in the presence of Fe3O4@CuO nanoparticles coated with carbon quantum dots for controlled release of doxorubicin [1,2]. The properties and structure of prepared materials were characterized and validated using FT-IR, XRD, UV-Vis, SEM, and DLS techniques. The in-vitro drug release study showed pH-sensitive in the simulated gastrointestinal tract (GIT) conditions (low release rate at pH 1.2 and higher release rate at pH 6.8). The obtained results showed that the synthesized bio-nanocomposite has antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Also, MTT analysis revealed good cytotoxicity for doxorubicin-loaded bio-nanocomposite. According to the results, the present bio-nanocomposite has a good potential to be used in colorectal cancer tissue treatment.
