Increased photocatalysis processes via merging π-conjugated covalent organic framework and nickel photoredox complex for synthesis of benzimidazole drugs

چکیده مقاله :
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted large interest owing to their constant porosity, high stability, and tunable functionalities. COFs with widespread π-conjugation and light-sensitizing structures have been investigated for various photoredox processes [1]. Nickel catalysts are an appropriate replacement for noble metal complexes such as Pd, Pt, etc., especially by changing their valance in during the reaction [2]. Benzimidazoles, as a special class of heterocyclic compounds, have been widely recognized as an important structure in biologically active molecules and pharmaceutical products [3]. Herein, we demonstrate the first study of COF-based electron transfer nickel catalysis. To investigate the performance of this catalyst under visible irradiation, the tandem reaction of toluene oxidation and benzimidazole cyclization has been examined. The COF/ Ni complex showed high efficiency in these reactions and could be recovered and reused without significant loss of catalytic activity
