Production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural using a novel chitosan-based catalyst

چکیده مقاله :
5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is one of the most significant building components based on biomass, which is a significant precursor in view of the presence of aldehyde and hydroxymethyl functional groups, and thus is very valuable in generating polymers, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, and related organics in the industry [1,2]. Recently, the preparation of heterogeneous catalysts using biopolymers has been considered due to their unique advantages [3]. Ionic liquids have attracted particular attention as novel and efficient catalysts owing to their critical properties e.g., environmental friendliness, high thermal stability, selective solubility, activity, etc. [2]. Herein, this study has demonstrated a novel method to prepare magnetic chitosan-supported ionic liquid copper(II) complex and its application to produce 5-HMF from fructose (Scheme 1).
