Visible-Light-Mediated Synthesis of Substituted pyrroles Using Eosin Y as a Photoredox Catalyst

Several strategies are available for the synthesis of pyrrole derivatives. However, these synthetic methods have problems such as the need for metal catalysts and expensive substrates, in addition, mostly the reactions are carried out under harsh conditions and in long periods of time with low efficiency. According to the mentioned challenges, most of the scientists are looking for easy, efficient and environmentally safe methods that enhance the probability of performing organic reactions under effective conditions. This study offers a method for utilizing Eosin Y, a non-metallic organic dye, in the photochemical synthesis of pyrrole derivatives at room temperature under visible light. This is a straightforward, highly effective, and one-pot process for synthesis of substituted pyrroles.
