Synthesis of carboxyl-terminated polyester resin for thermoset powder coating

چکیده مقاله :
A saturated linear carboxyl-terminated polyester resin was synthesized via two-stage process. To prepare polyester resin, an excess amount of glycol relation to acid was used in the esterification reaction mixture which gave a resin with predominantly hydroxyl groups at the terminal position [1]. Following that, acidifying agent was added to the prepared pre-polymer to produce a carboxyl-terminated polyester resin (Scheme). Based on formulation and acid value of this resin, Triglycidyi isocyanurate was chosen as the best curing agent in the composition of the powder coating. Infrared radiation technique was used to characterize the resin structure [2]. Also, useful data about glass transition temperature, melting point, curing time, and curing temperature of the powder paint were attained by differential scanning calorimeter. The result indicated that the prepared resin in the present work exhibits acceptable performance to be used in powder coating industry.
