چکیده مقاله :
A saturated polyester resin was prepared based on 1,3-propanediol. Most of glycols used in preparation of the polyester resins are derived from petrochemical resources such as 1,6-hexandiol and neopentyl glycol. Utilizing bio-based monomers in synthesis of a resin can provide its quality in the structure of the resin. One of the most appropriate alternatives for this target is 1,3-propanediol. Since it has reasonable price and can produce in sufficient amounts via microbial fermentation of glucose from starch [1]. Hybrid powder coating is composed of carboxyl-terminated polyester and epoxy resin of bisphenol-A type as a crosslinker [2]. polyester resin was prepared via melt two-stage polycondensation process (Scheme). To attain a resin with higher functionality than the normal polyester resin in polyester-TGIC systems, a higher molar percentage of polyacid was used [3]. Also, 20 % of neopentyl glycol was replaced with 1,3-propandiol in the preparation of formula. The structure and performance of the polyester resin was characterized using infrared radiation technique, and differential scanning calorimeter. The result indicated that the prepared polyester resin has lower glass transition temperature. Coating from this renewable polyester showed enhanced mechanical resistance like hardness and impact resistance which proves that this resin can be applied in coating industry.
