In situ synthesis of MOF(Ag) in carboxymethyl starch platform: Synthesis and characterization

In recent years, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) received more attention from researchers in most areas [1]. Adjustable specific surface areas, porosity, and chemical structure are some advantages of MOF-based materials. Unfortunately, the fabrication of MOFs in a neat state leads to some aggregation. Therefore the synthesis of these materials in the presence of other materials especially biopolymers is welcome [2-3]. Considering these, in this research work, at first, the starch polymer (St) was modified with chloroacetic acid to introduce the carboxylic acid functional groups in the structure (CMSt). In the next step, CMSt nanoparticles (CMSt NPs) were prepared via precipitation in ethanol. Eventually, the fabricated CMSt NPs acted as a green platform for Ag based MOFs synthesis (CMSt NPs/MOF(Ag)). The analysis of the physical and chemical properties displayed the successful formation of Ag MOF in the presence of CMSt NPs. For example, the appearance of the peaks at the 2θ value of 44.32⁰, 38.24⁰ and 32.28⁰ which are related to (002) ،(111) ،(011) is in good accordance with the crystalline structure of MOF(Ag) approves its successful formation in the CMSt NPs platform. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis presented a rod-like morphology for the prepared MOF(Ag). Overall the outcome of this research showed the possibility of the CMSt NPs use as a green platform for in situ synthesis of MOFs.
