Developing the novel fluorescent chemosensor based on the carbazole derivatives

Identification of the metal ions is very important in various sciences including the biological and industrial sciences. Thus, it is necessary to investigate trustworthy and simple techniques to identify and remove the heavy metal ions from the aqueous solutions to preserve the water resources [1]. Recently, fluorescence probes have attracted a lot of attention due to their sensitivity, high selectivity, cost-effective, fast response, large dynamic concentration range, noninversion, and simplicity in identification of the metal ions [2]. In the present study, the efficient synthesis of carbazole derivatives through Vilsmeier–Haack reaction was reported (Scheme 1). The fluorescence properties of 9H-Carbazole-9-carbazole derivative were investigated in the presence of various cations and anions. The results showed that the designed selective fluorescent can be used as the new chemical sensor probe with high sensitivity and selectivity to identify and isolating the ions. The competitive test of the synthesized compound in the presence of various ions proved the high selectivity and also the specific fluorescence for the desired ions.
