Utilization of AgNO3 over a novel amide-based covalent organic framework (COF) as a heterogeneous reusable catalyst for the synthesis of ß-amino carbonyl compounds

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a class of highly porous organic polymers. Functional modification of the COFs has become an efficient strategy to enlarge their application in diverse fields. The novel porous covalent organic framework was successfully functionalized with AgNO3. The high surface area Ag-COF could exhibit superior catalytic activity. The characterization of the novel catalyst was determined by FT-IR, SEM, EDS, PXRD, and TGA analysis. Ag-COF was used as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst. Therefore, it can be recovered by centrifugation and used for 4 cycles without reducing the catalytic activity. Simple operation, easy preparation of the catalyst, availability of raw materials, high stability, environmentally friendly catalyst and solvent, excellent efficiency, and simple work-up are the salient features of this methodology. A simple, easy, and efficient synthesis of β-aminocarbonyl derivatives has been carried out through the multicomponent Mannich reaction of aldehydes, amines, and various acetophenones in ethanol solvent using Ag-COF as a catalyst. β-aminocarbonyl compounds were produced with an efficiency ranging between 75% and 98% within a period of 4 hours.
