Grafted palladium on boehmite: synthesis, characterization and its catalytic application in Suzuki cross-coupling reaction

In this work, Schiff-base ligand (SBL) was synthesized by the condensation of 3,4-diaminobenzophenone and salicylaldehyde. Also, boehmite nanoparticles were synthesized using aqueous solutions of NaOH and Al(NO3)3⋅9H2O. Then, the surface of boehmite nanoparticles was modified with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES), and further synthesized Schiff-base ligand was immobilized on the surface of modified boehmite nanoparticles. In the final step, a Schiff-base complex of palladium was stabilized on its surface (Pd-SBL@boehmite). In the next step, Pd-SBL@boehmite was characterized by FT-IR, TGA, SEM, WDX, EDS, BET and ICP techniques. Then, Pd-SBL@boehmite was used as a selective, efficient, reusable and available catalyst in the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. This nanocatalyst was recovered and reused for several times without metal leaching or reactivation (Scheme).
