Exploring Achillea Species Essential Oils: Computer-Based Assessment Against SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease

In this study, we identified and analyzed phytochemicals from three different Achillea genera to assess their potential as antiviral agents against SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV-1 proteases. We used chemi-informatics tools to investigate the compounds' interactions with the proteases and found that kessanyl acetate, chavibetol (m-eugenol), farnesol, and 7-epi-β-eudesmol bind to the active sites of these viruses. These compounds were shown to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 by blocking its progression, and their low toxicity suggests they could be considered for further preclinical research.
