چکیده مقاله :
Polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) is an important polymer in the polymer industry, which is widely used as a soft segment in the production of polyurethane and polyester elastomers. PTMEG is synthesized via cationic ring-opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran (THF). So far, various compounds have been utilized as initiators for the polymerization of THF, but only a limited number of them have been suitable for the production of PTMEG. Considering the growing importance of PTMEG in polymer industries, it is essential to introduce an efficient method for the production of this material. In this research, PTMEG with hydroxyl end-groups was synthesized in the presence of tungstophosphoric acid as a catalyst and propylen oxide as a reaction initiator. The polymerization reaction of tetrahydrofuran was carried out in two steps. In the first step, acetate-terminated PTMEG was obtained from ring-opening polymerization of tetrahydrofuran (THF). In the second step, the acetate end-groups were hydrolyzed and hydroxyl groups were produced at the end of polymer chains. The synthesis of PTMEG is depicted in scheme 1. The results showed that PTMEG with hydroxyl end groups was synthesized with a very good efficiency in mild conditions. The heteropolyacid catalyst can be recycled and reused for several cycle of reactions.
