One-pot, cyclopropanation reaction of diethyl malonate with various aldehydes in presence of BrCN and trimethylamine

A new, fast, and easy one-pot cyclopropanation reaction of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with diethyl malonate and cyanogen bromide (BrCN) was developed for synthesizing tetraethyl 3-(aryl(alkyl))cyclopropane-1,1,2,2-tetracarboxylate in excellent yields in a short time (about 15s) under basic media. All structures were characterized using IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy techniques. This article describes a new one-pot reaction of aldehydes with diethyl malonate and BrCN to give 3- (aryl(alkyl))cyclopropane-1,1,2,2-tetracarboxylate in the presence of trimethylamine (Et3N) and/or sodium ethoxide (EtONa) in excellent yields in a very short time (15 s)
