Simple one-pot three-component synthesis of some new indoline-2-ones

Indole is an aromatic heterocyclic compound which finds in many natural products such as alkaloids, plants and animal hormones [1]. Indole fragments also finds in pharmacologically and biologically active compounds [2]. In recent years cancer and antibiotic resistance are both considered as a major concern for human health. Indoline-2-one fragments are used as both antimicrobial agents and also antitumor regent for cancer treatment [3]. We found when isatin was added to a pre-stirred mixture of amines and 1,1-dimethylthio-2-nitroethene in absolute ethanol at room temperature and in the presence of catalytic amounts of para-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA), 3-(2-amino-2-(methylthio)-1-nitrovinyl)-3-hydroxyindolin-2-one derivatives were prepared in good to excellent yields. So, here we introduce a mild and effective one-pot three-component method for the synthesis of the above-mentioned potential biologically active compounds Scheme(1).
