چکیده مقاله :
Organic dyes, a type of high toxic and carcinogenic chemicals that present severe threats to human and aquatic life, are the most commonly seen organic pollutants in wastewater of industries such as textile, rubber, cosmetic industry etc. Adsorption has proven to be a facile and promising approach for the removal of organic dyes in wastewater. In this study, activated carbon from apricot seed shell was prepared by chemical activation with ZnCl2 and its capacity to remove anionic reactive dye; reactive blue 19, from aqueous solution was reported. The effectiveness of apricot seed shell activated carbon to remove reactive blue 19 was examined at different initial dye concentrations, adsorbent dosage and pH. Results reveal that the equilibrium was attained within 60 min having 1 g/L adsorbent at pH of 4 and initial dye concentration of 40 ppm and the maximum equilibrium capacity was observed 132.8 mg/g. It can be concluded that the apricot seed shell as a low coast agricultural waste can have a great potential for textile waste water treatment.
